In Brazil, on August 31st, the senators voted President Dilma Rousseff out of office. She was accused of manipulating the federal budget to mask the budget deficit. Vice President Michel Temer is now the interim President.
In Venezuela, on September 1st, the opposition invited the Venezuelans to march to demand a referendum to dismiss President Nicolas Maduro. The day before, his supporters organized their own march to show him their support.
Republican candidate Donald Trump was invited by the Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to meet with him in Mexico city on August 31st. Peña Nieto didn’t react when Trump mentioned the wall of 16 000 km that he wants to build along the border. Back in Arizona, Trump declared again that the Mexicans would pay for the wall even “if they don’t know it yet.”
On August 24th, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and FARC leader Rodrigo Londoño, know as Timochenko, signed a peace agreement that ends the 52 year civil war, the longest on the American continent. The Colombians are called on to ratify this agreement on October 2nd.
